The Calmer - GABA

We have everything we need, NATURALLY, to live a happy, joyous existence. The way to get there is by strengthening our ability to cope with stress.

Optimal GABA levels mean you are calm, relaxed, physically resilient, and can cope with negative situations. You do not experience stress-related cravings. GABA is “The Calmer”

If you want to be able to de-stress in less than 5 minutes, you will definitely want to try GABA. When using this amino acid, you must start at 100-125 mg, because some people are really sensitive. (If you are normally sensitive to meds or supplements, be sure to start super low for all amino acids!). GABA is the primary inhibitory neurotransmitter because it blocks, or inhibits, certain brain signals and decreases activity in your nervous system. When GABA attaches to a protein in your brain, known as a GABA receptor, it produces a calming effect. This can help with feelings of anxiety and stress. GABA precautions are to be careful if you have very low blood pressure, as you could potentially pass out! My favorite description of GABA is to think of it like this: On a scale of 1-10, how stressed (activated) are you? If you’re a 3, you will need less GABA than if you’re a 10. I have very low blood pressure and even 200 mg really takes me down and makes me exhausted. But when I go to the dentist, I take 2000 mg! That calms me enough to get through any procedure, even a root canal!

Important note: I have found in practice that my alcohol addicted clients AND people who are coming off using benzodiazepines need 2-10x MORE than other people that have the same symptoms. That means you may need to take up to 3000 mg PER DOSE and take that several times a day!
